Welcome, clients, gearheads, and muscle car enthusiasts, to the inaugural issue of the Proformance Unlimited Horsepower Report! Whether your custom American muscle build is currently tearing up the track, dialed in on the dyno, or sitting proudly in your car, this publication is built to celebrate raw performance and engineering excellence with our valued community.

To kick off our very first issue, we want to pull back the curtain and introduce the core team that has powered our shop from day one. Proformance Unlimited was founded in 2002 by Doug Mascaritola and his wife, Patty. Doug’s journey in high-performance mechanics began long before that, driven by a lifelong passion for the craft. The extended family bond that defines our business runs deep, as Steve Lejda first met Doug and Patty through their son when he was just 13 years old, eventually forging a lifelong partnership. When it comes to the builds themselves, Doug and Steve are the absolute engine savants, the dynamic duo who bring a combined total of over 85 years of experience in the muscle car engine business to personally design, engineer, and meticulously build every single powerplant that leaves our shop. Alongside office manager Kim, who is Doug and Patty’s niece and keeps our operations running seamlessly, they have turned Proformance Unlimited into the powerhouse it is today.

From our early roots in New Jersey to our state-of-the-art facility in Melbourne, Florida, this family-built foundation is why every engine that leaves our shop meets our uncompromising standards. This month, we are launching our brand-new monthly owner showcase to break down why choosing the right cooling system protects your investment, while shining a light on our powerhouse featured build. Let’s make some horsepower.

Mastering Your Cooling System

Why You Can’t Skimp on Heat Management:
If you are going to drop $20,000 on a custom Proformance Unlimited engine, it is absolute madness to try and save a few hundred bucks on a cheap or undersized radiator. Large-displacement V8 engines create extreme thermal loads that factory or budget cooling systems simply cannot handle under hard driving. Moving air through the radiator is the only way your engine sheds heat to keep from melting itself.

How the System Works:
The Radiator acts as a heat exchanger. Hot coolant flows through tubes surrounded by aluminum fins. As air passes through, it absorbs the heat and carries it away. At highway speeds, natural ram air does the job. But at idle or in slow traffic, you rely entirely on your fan.

The Fan & Clutch / Electric Fan:
Mechanical fan clutches use a thermostatic spring to lock the fan and pull massive airflow when hot, while electric fans use temperature sensors and relays to kick on independently of engine RPM.

The Danger of Undersized Fans & Radiators
If you try to cut corners with an inadequate setup or lack a proper shroud, you run into severe issues: Turbulent Airflow: If a small fan on a two-foot radiator only covers the middle six inches, it creates turbulent airflow and leaves dangerous heat pockets across the core.

Overheating & Component Failure:
An undersized fan or cheap radiator moves fewer CFM, leading to severe engine overheating at idle, warped cylinder heads, and blown head gaskets that can cost thousands to repair, turning a budget shortcut into a catastrophic engine failure.
