Decisions, Decisions, Decisions, What Style Heads Should I Go With?
Aluminum Heads Vs. Cast Iron Vs. Style
Rumor #1 Aluminum Heads Produces More Power Than Cast Iron.
The Truth!
It's important to note that cast iron heads can actually deliver more power than comparable aluminum heads because cast iron can retain heat as opposed to aluminum, which dissipates the heat. The more heat in a combustion chamber means a higher potential for power.
However, The lighter weight of aluminum pays big dividends in performance, so the bottom line that cars equipped with aluminum heads can accelerate comparably, even with less HP.
Rumor #2 Lager Ports Produce More Power.
The Truth!
One must not assume that "bigger is better" In all applications, engine displacement, intake system characteristics, camshaft specs, ect. All contribute to determine what size cylinder head will work best in a given combination. Often times ports that are too big are detrimental to "signal" and have reduced velocity.
Rumor #3 Angle Plug Heads Produce More Power.
The Truth!
When the first angle plug heads were introduced by Chevy, there was no real difference. Then, engineers moved the location of the plug towards the exhaust valve, Which improved flame propagation. By moving the position of the spark plug in "straight" heads, similar gains were realized.
As It States Both Heads Aluminum And Cast Iron Do Work Extremely Well But We Use Aluminum Heads On Almost All Of Our Engines Because Of The Looks, Style, And Weight Differential.
